Protecting your engine oil is only half the story. Your DSG gearbox also generates significant heat, and the harder you drive (or the more power your car is making) the more important it becomes to keep that heat under control. The Racingline Performance DSG Oil Cooler System is a complete bolt-on upgrade designed to do exactly that on MQB platform cars fitted with the 6-speed DQ250 transmission.
Why fit a DSG oil cooler?
Under hard driving, the factory DSG oil/water cooler is easily overwhelmed. When the oil cannot shed its collected heat fast enough, it begins to thin and degrade, losing its lubricating properties. At that point the gearbox protects itself by reducing torque, increasing shift times and, in extreme cases, dropping gear selection altogether.
If your car is tuned, used on track, towing, or driven in hot climates, this is the upgrade that keeps the DQ250 performing as it should.
How the Racingline kit works
Rather than replacing the factory cooling system, this kit adds to it. The original oil/water cooler is retained (in updated low-profile form), and a thermostatically controlled air/oil cooler is mounted at the front of the car, directly in the cool airflow behind the bumper.
The thermostat only opens when oil temperatures climb above normal operating range. When it does, oil is routed through a densely finned 10-row cooler core, dropping temperatures by around 15 to 20 degrees centigrade depending on driving style, ambient conditions and state of tune. The result is more consistent shift behaviour, better protection of the clutches and fluid, and far less heat being dumped into the coolant system.

Installation note
Fitting the front-mounted cooler bracket requires drilling bolt holes through the front crash bar. This is a straightforward part of the installation, but worth knowing in advance. The sandwich plate design otherwise makes the fitment clean and fully reversible at the gearbox side.
Fitment
Designed for MQB platform vehicles running the 6-speed DQ250 DSG only. This includes popular Golf 7, Audi S3 8V and other MQB cars equipped with the DQ250 transmission. It is not compatible with 7-speed DQ381 or DQ500 gearboxes.
