What this plug does

The “7” in the part code indicates a colder heat range than the factory-fitted plug found in many standard TSI and TFSI engines. A colder plug pulls more heat away from the combustion chamber, which is important once you raise boost pressure or run a Stage 1, Stage 2 or higher software tune. This helps protect against pre-ignition and detonation (also known as knock), which can damage pistons and other internal parts.

The fine-wire iridium centre electrode allows for a stronger, more consistent spark using less voltage. In real terms, this means:

• More reliable ignition under boost and at higher RPM
• Smoother idle and improved throttle response
• Better fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to a worn plug
• Long service life thanks to the slow wear rate of iridium
• Built-in 5 kOhm resistor to suppress radio and electronic interference

Typical fitment

The BKR7EIX is a popular choice for the VW Group 1.8T 20V, 2.0 TFSI (EA113), and Gen.1 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI (EA888) engines, particularly when running uprated software or hardware. It is commonly fitted at a tighter gap than standard – please check your tuner’s recommended gap and verify it before installation.
