This is the genuine OEM water pump union (part number 06L121131), a small but essential coolant connection used on the EA888 Gen 3 engine family. It forms part of the cooling circuit at the water pump, sealing the pipework that routes coolant around the engine.

Although it looks like a minor component, the union is a known service item. Its seals harden over time and through repeated heat cycles, which can lead to weeping coolant leaks. Replacing it alongside the water pump and thermostat is the sensible approach, as the area is awkward to access once the engine is reassembled.
