Genuine VAG 1.8/2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 Water Pump & Thermostat Kit
If you own a VAG vehicle fitted with the EA888 Gen.3 engine, you may already be familiar with one of its most common faults: a leaking water pump and thermostat housing. It’s a well documented issue across the 1.8 and 2.0 TSI range, and left unchecked it can lead to coolant loss, overheating and far more costly engine repairs.
This Genuine VAG kit contains everything you need to put the problem right with original equipment parts, supplied directly from the manufacturer. As an authorised retailer, we only supply genuine components, so you can be confident the replacement matches the quality and fitment of the original.
What’s in the kit
- Genuine Water Pump – 06L121012L
- Genuine Thermostat Housing – 06L121111P
- Genuine Union & Seals – 06L121131
Why this fix matters
The water pump and thermostat housing on the EA888 Gen.3 are made largely from composite plastic. Over time, heat cycles cause the housing to weaken and weep coolant, typically around the seams or where the union connects. Common symptoms include:
- Coolant level dropping with no obvious external puddle
- A sweet smell or visible residue around the pump and housing area
- Temperature gauge fluctuations or warning lights
- Slow warm up due to a faulty thermostat
Replacing the pump, housing, union and seals together as a complete set is the sensible approach. These parts share the same operating environment and age at a similar rate, so fitting them all at once avoids repeat labour and the frustration of a second leak appearing shortly after the first repair.
Typical fitment
This kit suits a wide range of popular VAG models running the 1.8 and 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 engine, including:
- Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R (MK7)
- Audi A3, S3 and TT (8V)
- SEAT Leon (MK3), including Cupra
- Skoda Octavia (MK3), including vRS
- Volkswagen Tiguan (2nd Gen)
- Audi Q3 (1st Gen)
Please confirm fitment for your specific vehicle using the site’s vehicle lookup tool, or check the Vehicle Fitment tab before ordering. Engine code and production date can affect compatibility.
Installation notes
This is a job best carried out by a competent technician with experience working on the EA888 platform. A few important points to keep in mind:
- Always allow the engine to cool fully before opening the cooling system.
- The cooling system must be properly bled after fitting to remove air pockets, which can otherwise cause overheating or poor heater performance.
- Use the correct G13 (or manufacturer specified) coolant, mixed to the recommended ratio.
- Inspect surrounding hoses and clamps while the system is open and replace any that show signs of age.
Do not reuse old seals or the original union. The new seals supplied in this kit are designed for a single fitment and are essential to ensure a leak free seal.
Restore reliability with genuine parts
Fitting this kit returns the cooling system to factory specification using the exact parts the engine was designed around. It’s a straightforward, proven fix for one of the EA888 Gen.3’s best known weaknesses, helping protect your engine’s long term reliability and keeping temperatures where they should be.
