What does it do?

The heat shield sits between the brake fluid reservoir and nearby heat sources in the engine bay. Its job is simple but important: it reflects and blocks heat away from the brake fluid, helping to keep fluid temperatures stable during hard driving or prolonged use.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture over time. When it gets too hot, particularly fluid that has absorbed water, it can boil and create vapour in the brake lines. This leads to a soft pedal and reduced braking performance, often called “brake fade”. A working heat shield helps prevent this by keeping the reservoir cooler.
