Genuine VAG High Pressure Fuel Pump Cam Follower (06D 109 309 J)
The high pressure fuel pump cam follower is one of the most important wear items on the 2.0 TFSI and related VAG engines. This small bucket-shaped part sits between the camshaft lobe and the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP), transferring the motion that drives the pump. Over time, the hardened coating on the follower can wear through, and if left unchecked, it will damage the camshaft lobe itself, leading to a far more expensive repair.
This is the genuine VAG part, number 06D 109 309 J, supplied as an authorised retailer. Fitting the correct OEM follower gives you the right hardness, tolerances and finish that the engine was designed around.
Why this part matters
The cam follower is a known service item on engines fitted with a mechanical high pressure fuel pump. A worn follower is one of the most common causes of running issues, fuel pressure faults and, in worst cases, catastrophic camshaft damage. Regular inspection and replacement is cheap insurance against a very costly repair.
- Genuine VAG (OEM) quality, not a pattern part
- Correct hardened coating to resist wear against the cam lobe
- Helps maintain consistent fuel pressure and smooth running
- Protects the camshaft from premature wear
When to replace it
It is good practice to inspect the cam follower at every service interval, and certainly before fitting any tuning software that raises fuel pressure demands. Look for any signs of wear through the black coating, pitting, or a polished hole in the contact face. If in doubt, replace it – the part is inexpensive compared to a new camshaft.
Important: When refitting, lubricate the new follower thoroughly with clean engine oil before installation. Make sure it is fitted the correct way up, with the hardened face against the cam lobe. Always check the cam lobe itself for wear at the same time – if the lobe is damaged, a new follower alone will not solve the problem.
Fitment
This cam follower fits a wide range of popular VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda engines using a mechanical high pressure fuel pump, including many 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TSI applications. As fitment varies by engine code rather than model year alone, please use the vehicle lookup tool or check the Vehicle Fitment tab to confirm this is the correct part for your car before ordering.
Applications
Please note, customers are wholly responsible for checking fitment for their vehicle.
