The Racingline Cup Edition Intake (VWR12G7CUP) is the brand’s top-tier open air intake system, developed through motorsport and refined for fast road use. It replaces the restrictive factory airbox with a large-diameter intake pipe and a high-flow cone filter, giving your turbocharged 2.0 TSI engine the cold, dense air it needs to perform at its best.
What it does and why it matters
The standard airbox is designed with a balance of cost, noise and emissions in mind, which means it restricts the engine more than necessary. The Cup Edition intake removes that restriction with a smooth, wide-bore pipe and an oversized, domed TriFoam high-flow filter. The larger filter surface means more cool air can reach the turbo at any given moment, improving efficiency throughout the rev range.
In Racingline’s own testing, this improved airflow reduces turbo spool by close to 500 rpm, which means the turbo reaches full boost sooner. The result is sharper throttle response, less turbo lag and a stronger pull through the mid-range.
Intelligent open cone design
A common issue with open intakes is that they can draw in hot air from the engine bay, which actually hurts performance. Racingline addresses this with a fully formed, black powder-coated aluminium heat shield that wraps around the filter. The shield extends up to the underside of the bonnet and below the filter, keeping hot engine bay air separated from the cool intake air. This helps the intake deliver consistent performance, even when sitting in traffic or after hard driving.

The sound
As an open cone intake, the Cup Edition gives a noticeably deeper and more aggressive induction note under hard acceleration. You’ll also hear the diverter valve more clearly when lifting off between gears, something many enthusiasts specifically look for in an intake upgrade.

Installation notes
No ECU remap or software changes are required to fit this intake. However, to get the full benefit of the increased airflow, this intake is best paired with a Stage 1 or higher performance software tune. The TriFoam filter is reusable and should be cleaned periodically using a suitable foam filter cleaning kit to maintain peak flow.
