The Racingline Oil Management System is a complete solution for owners of the 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 engine who want to keep their intake system clean and protect their engine under hard driving. Unlike a basic catch can, this kit tackles two well-known issues with the EA888 Gen.3 platform: oily intake contamination from crankcase vapours, and oil surge during high-G braking on track.

Why fit an oil catch can to the EA888 Gen.3?

All modern turbocharged engines route crankcase gases (a mix of air, oil mist and moisture) back into the intake to be burned. Over time, this oily residue coats the intercooler, intake pipework and inlet valves. On direct-injection engines like the 2.0 TSI, where fuel does not wash over the valves, this build-up can reduce airflow and affect performance.

The Racingline catch can sits between the crankcase breather and the intake. Its internal baffles slow the vapour flow and condense the oil and moisture, collecting it in the base of the can rather than letting it pass into your engine. The result is cleaner intake pipework, a cleaner intercooler, and a purer air charge entering the combustion chamber.

Track-proven oil starvation protection

The kit also includes a dedicated Engine Breather Plate, the same component Racingline run in their TCR race cars. Under heavy braking at high speed, oil in the top of the engine can surge away from where it is needed, briefly starving critical components of lubrication. This has been a known contributor to engine failures on hard-driven EA888 Gen.3 engines.

The breather plate is designed to control oil movement inside the cam cover area, helping to keep oil where it should be during sustained high-G braking. If you use your car on track, this is one of the most worthwhile pieces of protection you can fit.

Important notes

The catch can must be emptied and serviced regularly. Collected oil and moisture should be drained at every service interval, or more frequently if the car is driven hard or used on track. Failure to do so will reduce the effectiveness of the system.

Installation should be carried out by a competent technician familiar with VAG engines. Take care to route hoses correctly and ensure all connections are fully sealed before starting the engine.
