The Racingline Performance Software and PDM bundle is a complete Stage 1 tuning solution for the VW Polo GTI (6C), fitted with the 1.8 TSI EA888.3 engine and IS12 turbocharger. Designed to be flashed at home using Racingline’s plug-in PDM (Portable Device Module), this package gives you a meaningful gain in power and torque while keeping the engine’s reliability intact.

What the Software Does

Racingline’s Stage 1 map carefully adjusts the engine’s control settings, including boost pressure, fuel delivery and ignition timing. The result is a smoother power delivery, sharper throttle response and stronger pull through the rev range. Compared to the standard factory tune, you can expect a noticeable lift in both horsepower and torque, with the most obvious improvement felt in mid-range acceleration.

Unlike a generic remap, this is a calibration written specifically for the Polo GTI’s 1.8 TSI engine, so it works with the hardware rather than pushing it beyond sensible limits.

Flashing at Home with the PDM

The PDM is Racingline’s own handheld flashing device. It plugs into your car’s OBD port and, with the help of a laptop, downloads the new map directly from Racingline’s servers to your ECU. The process is guided step by step, so no specialist tuning knowledge is needed.

To carry out the flash at home, you will need:

• A Windows 10 or 11 laptop with a USB port and mains power supply
• A stable wired broadband connection (a strong Wi-Fi signal is acceptable)
• A battery charger or support unit rated 20A minimum (CTEK recommended)
• Access to mains electricity at the vehicle

Important Considerations Before Tuning

Manual gearbox clutch: If your Polo GTI has a manual transmission, we strongly recommend upgrading the clutch before tuning. The extra torque produced at Stage 1 can exceed what the standard clutch is designed to handle, leading to slipping under load.

DSG gearbox software: If your car has the DSG automatic gearbox, consider adding Racingline’s TCU (Transmission Control Unit) software. This re-calibrates the gearbox to handle the extra torque, sharpens shift speeds and prevents the standard TCU from limiting power.

Fuel grade: Peak power figures are quoted using 99 RON fuel (such as Shell V-Power or Tesco Momentum). A 95 RON map is available if higher octane fuel is not easily available, though gains will be slightly lower. Do not run 95 RON fuel in a vehicle mapped for 99 RON.

Free Upgrade Path to Stage 2

One of the strongest reasons to choose Racingline software is the free upgrade from Stage 1 to Stage 2. Once you own the software, moving up the tuning ladder costs nothing in software terms. You only need to add the supporting hardware.

For Stage 2, the following upgrades are typically required:

• Racingline performance air intake and turbo inlet elbow
• Uprated front-mount intercooler
• Performance downpipe
